Strawberry Poison Frog
Strawberry Poison Frog (Dendrobates pumilio) -one of the less-toxic species of Poison Dart Frogs.
Poison Dart Frog is the common name given to the group of Dendrobatid frogs belonging to the family of Dendrobatidae. This group of frogs has many common names including: poison arrow frogs, poison frogs, or simply dart frogs. These frogs received their common name from the toxic skin a few species posses and which is used by natives of South America for their hunting arrows. It is believed the few species that are toxic become so through their diet, which consists in part of carpenter ants. The photo was taken on a tour at Rio Sarapiquí.
